ABOUT Mitchell Krieger, Principal Consultant
As a consultant, Mitchell Krieger is known for strategic planning, leading board retreats, performing development audits, writing grants and teaching workshops. A prolific writer, he is the author of numerous recording notes and program articles.
Mr. Krieger’s career began in 1990 as Artistic Administrator at Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Pacific and Dayton Opera. In 1998, he became full-time Director of Operations for Opera Pacific. As one of the leaders of Opera Pacific's renaissance, he produced several acclaimed new opera productions, including Carmen, Salome, and Dead Man Walking.
He then served as Managing Director of George Street Playhouse. In partnership with Artistic Director David Saint, Mr. Krieger produced critically acclaimed productions including a number of world premieres. GSP’s educational programs more than doubled during Mr. Krieger’s tenure.
Mr. Krieger was Executive Director of the Victoria Symphony from January 2009 through June 2016, where his many achievements included building the Symphony’s endowment from under $3 million to over $8 million; increasing annual giving by 300%; and growing the Symphony’s educational programs significantly. For the 2015/2016 75th Anniversary season, Mr. Krieger enticed Yo-Yo Ma and Yannick Nézet-Séguin to perform with the Symphony, and arranged the Victoria Symphony's first-ever tour to the major cities of Eastern Canada.
Mr. Krieger’s career as a musician and teacher included positions at New York City Opera, Virginia Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Cleveland Opera, Juilliard Opera Center, and guest engagements with many other companies. He also served as Professor of Opera for the University of Michigan, as well as judging for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music and California Institute of the Arts.
